Karnataka Elections 2018

Date: 19th May 2018

On May 11th 2018, Karnataka Assembly elections saw a dramatic political outcome.Congress won the biggest vote percentage while BJP won the most MLA seats. JD(S) got the least share of votes and MLAs but will form Government and become CM. A direct election of CM, similar to how Governors in the US would be elected, would have resulted in Congress candidate becoming CM.

Due to a fractured mandate, despite a bigger vote share, Congress chose to settle and give CM post to JD(S) so it can keep BJP away from power. In expressing their views from Maharashtra, MNS and Shivsena allege EVM tampering and challenged BJP to a Paper Ballot.
